What to Expect When Your Mainely Standards Puppy Goes Home

Bringing home a new puppy is exciting, rewarding, and sometimes a little overwhelming. While your puppy has been preparing for this transition since the day they were born, moving to a new home is still a major change. A little patience, consistency, and understanding go a long way during those first few days.

What Goes Home With Your Puppy

To help make the transition as smooth as possible, your puppy will go home with several items, including:

• One of their favorite toys

• A sample of their current food

• Vaccination and health records

• A birth certificate

• A color-coded bandana carrying familiar scents from their mother and littermates

The toy and bandana often provide comfort during the first few days, helping your puppy adjust to a new environment while still carrying familiar scents from home.

The First Few Days

For many puppies, the first day is filled with excitement, curiosity, and a little uncertainty. Some puppies immediately begin exploring. Others may be quieter as they learn about their new surroundings.

It’s normal for routines to take a few days to develop. Your puppy may eat a little differently, sleep differently, or need extra reassurance while adjusting to their new family. Consistency, patience, and a predictable routine will help them settle in quickly.

We recommend establishing feeding schedules, potty routines, crate routines, and household expectations from the beginning. Puppies thrive when they understand what is expected of them.
