Toys and Puzzles
Standard Poodles are intelligent, curious, and active dogs. One of the easiest ways to keep them happy and engaged is by providing appropriate toys and opportunities to use their minds.
Physical exercise is important, but mental exercise matters too. Many poodles enjoy solving problems, searching for hidden treats, learning new games, and figuring out how toys work. Interactive toys and puzzles can help satisfy that need while reducing boredom and helping prevent unwanted behaviors.
Toys also provide an outlet for natural behaviors such as chewing, retrieving, carrying, and exploring. For puppies especially, having appropriate toys available can help redirect attention away from furniture, shoes, and other items they shouldn’t be chewing.
Just as importantly, toys create opportunities for interaction. Games of fetch, tug, hide-and-seek, and other activities help strengthen the bond between dogs and their families while providing valuable physical and mental stimulation.
At Mainely Standards, our puppies are introduced to a variety of toys and enrichment activities from an early age. By the time your puppy comes home, they’ll already have preferences and favorite games of their own.
To help with the transition, each puppy goes home with one of their favorite toys. We’re also happy to share recommendations on the toys, puzzles, and enrichment activities that have worked well with our adult dogs over the years.
A tired dog isn’t always a good dog, but a mentally engaged dog is often a happier one.
