Mazikeen (Mazie)

Mazie is one of the next generation of Mainely Standards. As a daughter of Lilith and Lu C Fur, she carries forward the lines that helped establish our program while bringing a personality that is entirely her own.

Mazie is intelligent, athletic, affectionate, and always paying attention. Like many Standard Poodles, she wants to know what everyone is doing, where they are going, and whether she should be involved. The answer, in Mazie’s mind, is almost always yes.

She is naturally observant and perhaps a little more vigilant than most. Visitors rarely arrive unnoticed, and activities rarely occur without Mazie taking an interest. Whether she’s supervising yard work, monitoring household activities, or keeping track of the rest of the pack, she likes to stay informed.

Mazie is also one of the most affectionate dogs in our home. She craves attention and has never been shy about asking for it. Unfortunately, she learned early on that putting her front paws on people was an effective way to get attention. Bob, while using his wheelchair, unintentionally reinforced the habit, and we’re still working to convince her there are better ways to ask. Mazie remains convinced that close personal interaction is always the correct answer.

She is also responsible for one of the more memorable lessons in our household. Mazie developed a habit of stealing socks, eventually earning the title of Mainely Standards’ official sock thief. What began as a harmless game became much more serious when she swallowed a sock that failed to pass on its own, requiring surgery to remove it. Since then, the household has adopted a strict “sock lockdown” policy, a rule Mazie helped create through personal experience.

Despite her occasional questionable decision-making, Mazie embodies many of the qualities we value most in a Standard Poodle. She is confident, eager to engage with people, quick to learn, and happiest when she is included in whatever is happening around her.

At Mainely Standards, we believe temperament is every bit as important as health testing and pedigree. Mazie reminds us every day why those qualities matter. She is intelligent enough to keep us on our toes, affectionate enough to steal our attention, and unforgettable enough to leave her mark on everyone she meets.
