Does Food Matter?
Absolutely.
Food is one of the most important choices you’ll make for your dog, and it affects everything from growth and development to energy levels, coat quality, digestion, and overall health.
That doesn’t mean there is only one “right” food. Different dogs can thrive on different diets. Age, activity level, metabolism, allergies, and individual preferences all play a role in determining what works best for a particular dog.
In general, we encourage families to choose a high-quality food that provides complete and balanced nutrition. Dogs that are fed nutrient-dense foods often require smaller portions, maintain better body condition, and produce less waste because their bodies are able to utilize more of what they consume.
Perhaps more important than finding the “perfect” food is paying attention to the dog in front of you. A healthy coat, good energy level, appropriate weight, and normal digestion are all signs that a diet is working well.
Whenever changing foods, we recommend making the transition gradually to reduce the risk of digestive upset. We also encourage families to work with their veterinarian when addressing specific health concerns, allergies, or dietary needs.
Like many aspects of dog ownership, there is no single answer that works for every dog. The goal is finding a quality food that helps your dog stay healthy, active, and comfortable throughout their life.
